Christa Couture
Growing up with her Mom’s Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and Gilbert & Sullivan, Christa began writing songs at the age of 6 and performing on stage and screen before getting to high school. At age 13, a bout with cancer, which resulted in having her leg amputated, gave Christa a lot of time to think about chord progressions and words that rhymed. She tinkered on the piano, but eventually came into her own when she inherited a guitar from an absent roommate in college. Her first EP “Starter” was produced by Ewan Deane and Murray Atkinson and with musicians Doug Elliot (The Odds) and Don Harrison, Don Binns and Don Short (all Sons of Freedom). Shortly thereafter, Christa and her guitar moved to England to play in many a smoky pub: Through a year of gigging in England, and airplay in Calgary and Vancouver upon her return, Christa garnered praise and fans from all across Canada and the UK.
