[named after our Canadian national head garment] TOQUEFEST is dedicated to providing an open-source for the exhibition of emerging entertainment. Combining all the attributes of Vancouver into a selection of unique venues, this outdoor film and music festival is growing into an annual celebration that this great city is increasingly embracing. In its modest debut, the event featured 2 films (projected onto a white tarp), and a local jazz trio (J.P. Carter Trio), who's acoustic set opened the foggy fall evening. The microfest was housed by the Kitsilano Showboat, an outdoor amphitheater located along Kits Beach. Despite the cold, the 75 people in attendance put on their wool caps and braved the elements, and born was the name and spirit of TOQUEFEST. Last year's event was held in the centre of downtown Vancouver at Robson Square. The program included 3 musical acts and 11 short films, one of which went on to win an Academy Award (Ryan). This December, the weekend event will span over the course of 2 nights, each evening will include a combination of live music, and a multiform film program. TOQUEFEST'S primary concern is the exhibition of quality content. Out of all the submissions obtain and solicit, the content is condensed down to a small number of artists who we feel represent the spirit of TOQUEFEST.
